Membership Site Nightmares
I have been busy. I’ve been working on creating a membership site.
Everyone is all crazy now about membership sites, and how easy it is to set up. I beg to differ.
Over the course of the past month, I had to learn how to install scripts, and how to manage a lot of things not just on the server but within the site itself. All this while trying to put together some video tutorials for our membership site and I have to say it is not as easy as everyone makes it sound.
Now I’m working on content like a maniac so I can try to get ahead and maybe have a week off by the end of Summer. I don’t know if I’ll ever see the light of day again.
I love being a member of membership sites – and my joke is that I am a member of practically every membership site on the web – except for one. If you’re wondering which one, just use the little search feature at the top there and type in Kimkins to see why.
Anyway, I just got some hot off the presses information. I like Rob Benwell. I like his stuff a lot. No crap, he gets right down to it, and delivers.
I wish I had got this email a couple of months ago from him, because I may have done things a lot differently than I did. Just to show you some of the frustration, I have a fake squeeze page for a fake membership site here – no, don’t join cause you won’t get a thing. I was so upset. There are so many different scripts and they all work differently. It was such a pain to deal with.
Well Rob drops this email in my box and he has the whole thing figured out. Content and all.

I always seem to think I’m getting ahead and whammo – a product comes out to automate the whole thing. I can’t get mad, and in fact I will very likely be jumping on this offer myself so I can have something solid in place. He has done everything. Six months of content! All wrapped up and ready to go! Do you know how long it will take me to get 6 months of content together?

Thanks for Following Me!
I’ve been doing quite a bit of twitter in the past few weeks, as I’m putting together some video and tutorials.
I have become overwhelmed with the number of applications for twitter. Not just those currently available, but the ones I keep hearing tidbits about.
I won’t take up much of your time, just wanted to say thank you to all of my followers and I hope I’m able to provide some things for either you or people you know who may need some additional assistance using Twitter – as well as any other topics I may be familiar with.
Some of my followers this past week have been extremely helpful in getting me out of some pickles, and getting information I couldn’t wait to hear. And someone was even kind enough to stop me in my tracks when I posted something that I had heard from someone else, that turned out to be amongst the things urban legends are made of.
Are you looking for more followers? My advice – start following a lot of folks. While you can see someones profile, and perhaps a link to their website, you really don’t know who you are following until you are able to see them in action. I like to give everyone a fair shot.
My friend told me her Grandmother used to say, “Well, you just don’t know a man until you’ve slept with him.”
I think this can be roughly applied where Twitter is concerned. You just don’t really know a Tweet until you’ve followed them

Spread of Misinformation and Twitter
I got a little wake up call last night. I got an email from someone I trust – and I have no reason not to trust this person but it became apparent to me in the end that this person had got their information elsewhere.
Here’s the email I got:
REMEMBER: Cell Phone Numbers Go Public next month.
REMINDER…. all cell phone numbers are being released to telemarketing companies and you will start to receive sale calls.
….. YOU WILL BE CHARGED FOR THESE CALLS
To prevent this, call the following number from your cell phone: 888-382-1222.
It is the National DO NOT CALL list. It will only take a minute of your time. It blocks your number for five (5) years. You must call from the cell phone number you want to have blocked. You cannot call from a different phone number.
HELP OTHERS BY PASSING THIS ON TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS.. It takes about 20 seconds.
My reason in sharing this is not to shame the person who sent it to me. I still appreciate her dearly and the bits of emails she sends.
What I do need to share is that I blindly accepted the information without doing my own little search first. So like the responsible citizen I am, I twittered it. I also posted it to avenuegirl.
Turns out this message is an urban legend and no, I won’t be getting a bunch of solicitors calling my cell phone. While this didn’t hurt anything to call and add my number, I had been given a wake up call.
All it took was a simple google search to see the rumor exposed. Someone on Twitter was kind enough to reply to me to let me know that was an old hoax. Gotta love Twitter for that.
The moral of the story here? Always be sure to verify your sources. They may not be trying to give you misinformation, but it can still happen.
My other advice? Twitter rocks. I want to thank @jhnwssr for sorting that out quickly for me, and let you all know if you are not yet on Twitter you are missing out. You can get a great free guide to get yourself started that will give you 7 secrets you need to know about Twitter.

Ok, so here’s the deal. If I reply to this email, they will know my email address is a responsive one, and off I go onto some massive spam list. There is no real offer of web design here.
If I try to “unsubscribe” the same issue will occur. You’ll notice, there is no actual website for me to refer to which is mentioned in the letter. If there were, I’d be able to cut and paste it into my addy bar and visit directly – allowing me to email the owner of the site from there. Yes, do a cut and paste and never click on the link in the email if you don’t know who it is really coming from.
Don’t let these innocent emails fool you!
I now have much of my mail filtered – including this piece here.
Best thing to do? Toss it into the trash, and what ever you do, Don’t Reply!

I’ve Been Scammed Again!
Well not really – but this was a really funny phishing mail.
Letter follows:
The FBI/Interpol Coalition on Fraud Investigations

ATTENTION:
We recently arrested a group of West African / Ghana, Benin and Nigerian Internet scam Artists in London and we have reasons to believe you have been one of their numerous victims. A thorough search of the computers arrested with the individuals and their confessions during interrogation has revealed to us that you paid certain sums of money to these fraudsters via Western Union and or bank transfer. These individuals have been wrongfully informing alot of people via email on the internet that they have huge sums of money to be transferred from a foreign bank account. Also, they have confessed to loan scams and the Uk National Lottery scam and have been demanding money from innocent people for purported claims of the said money. They operated with a fake Bank and courier and alot of people have fallen victims to them in the past 3 years.
They were arrested 6 months ago when they attempted to defraud an American citizen of $5.2m USD by the FBI/ British Intelligence Unit and the Interpol working together to break the scam ring.
Our Investigation revealed that you paid out some money to these individuals over a period of time. We are happy to inform you that you can now claim back your money as well as your compensation.
We have already initiated proceedings on your behalf with the West African / Nigerian Government to ensure that as a genuine scam victim, you will not only recover your lost money but also you will be compensated for the financial and emotional stress you and your family went through because of the scam.
Our Internal Audit Bureau has estimated that you are eligible to claim a total of $1,200,000.USD from the Fraud Compensation Committee set up by the
West African / Nigerian Government to ensure that properly identified scam victims are paid and adequately compensated from the $3bn allocated compensation loan from the World Bank.
This Fund is directly under the watchful eye of both the FBI/Interpol to avoid misappropriation or embezzlement of fund.
The known assets of the Fraudsters has since be confiscated and their Bank Accounts frozen. At the conclusion of our investigations, their assets will be used to pay back for the cost of compensation to their victims to the Fraud Compensation Committee.
