Kimkins and Self Esteem
What is it that lures some into defending scams like Kimkins?
Kimkins promised fast weight loss, and that was one of the reasons I joined. But since then, we have all come to realize that fast weight can be dangerous when done the Kimkins way.
Why are people drawn to stay? Many of them know the diet is unsafe. Some claim to stay in order to stay close to their online friends. But can’t they do this on another forum? And without the fear of saying the wrong thing – or being berated for asking simple questions?
I believe some of the die hard KK fans have a much larger problem then losing weight. Many of them seem to be greatly lacking in self esteem.
In fact, self esteem issues could be the cause of their weight gain in the first place. What happens then?
In the pursuit of finding an answer to this weight gain, they sought out Kimkins. In some crazy mixed up way, dieters become fixated with their appearance (more so then their health) and instead of focusing on losing weight for health purposes, they are drawn in to the comments made by their friends and family who are watching them lose weight. Losing weight gets them attention – and attention feeds their self esteem.
Another problem develops. Weight loss done the Kimkins way can not be maintained – and the dieter is faced with either restrictive dieting at dangerously low levels, or gaining the weight back. Upon looking at the mirror, the person that was finally skinny a month ago is back to gaining weight. Clothes will cease to fit. The compliments will stop coming. And self esteem may plummet to all time lows. The cycle continues on, and can quickly manifest into an eating disorder.
This is just one scenario for some of those who have realized the truth about Kimkins.
What can we do about this?
Self esteem affirmations are one solution.
Members of Kimkins need to stop looking to Heidi for support, and learn how to build their own support system from within.
Heidi appears to have the firmest grip on those with low self esteem. She commends those who claim success with her diet, lurking for her next front page triumph (now that her lovely lady in the lawnchair pic or Leysa can’t be used as her own success).
If for some strange reason you are not losing – you must be faux dieting. No, don’t blame you gains or stalls on Kimkins. Obviously you are the problem.
All one needs to do is look at some video of a deposition to see the real problem with Kimkins. It is a big problem, and it is a false treatment for self esteem.

Sadly, this rings incredibly true for me at this point. But I am on a journey to find yet another solution to this problem. The one you have listed doesn’t always work unfortunately.
Thanks for the insightful post. It’s good to see you blogging again.

“Look to Heidi for support”? Seriously? I guess you are right, judging from the recent email conversations that have been revealed by the latest defectors. It’s a sad world where people need to look to an obese, self-proclaimed diet guru for support.
PS. Love your new layout! I’m still searching for the perfect one as I either don’t like all of the look or the widgets don’t work so it ends up being a lot of code tweaking.
Yeah, this particular pink theme is not displaying properly in firefox, so it will have to be changed. Thinking about making my own tweeked theme.
Great post! I’m finally finding my way to losing what I gained when I stopped Kimkins due to the health issues. It really does need to be about health first, weight second.
